A Little Indoor Lighting Tip(;

For the longest time, I have struggled(really, hated) working with indoor lighting. On my journey in learning the field of photography, this has been that one thing to drive me CRAZY! But, with the help of some other photographer friends, and a little experimentation, I am learning to work with it(: It's actually not as big of a monster as I thought it to be. So here are a few things I have learned, that I want to share with anyone else who might be having some similar problems....

  1. If you are going to be doing indoor events, I consider an external flash a must. Why? Because a pop-up flash creates those nasty, dark shadows behind a person or object. The external flash takes care of those terrible shadows. Also, the external flash helps to create a more natural lighting.
  2. When you go to edit a picture that has a sort of dark fog or reddish tint, make sure that you adjust the brightness. This can be sort of tricky, because you don't want to push it with the brightness. Sometimes, if you aren't careful, you will just make it look even worse; it might become grainy, or it may mess up when you try to further edit it. (I would know, from self-experience;)
   Here's an example of what the brightness can do for you:

 I used my nikon sb700 flash for this shot...

On the top: the raw image.
On the bottom: slightly edited image. I adjusted the brightness, sharpened it, and added a little contrast.

A little editing can go a long way!
Your's truly,
Hannah(:
